Deibler Brothers Shine on Final Day of German Championships

Markus and Steffen Deibler combined for three individual golds on the final day of the German Short Course Championships in Wuppertal.

Markus won the men’s 200 IM in a time of 1:52.38 taking the event by more than two seconds and breaking his own national record in the process. His previous record of 1:53.24 was set in 2013.

His time also puts him third in the world rankings.

Steffen took two events winning the men’s 100 butterfly in a time of 50.67 and the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.74.

Sarah Kohler finished her sweep of the women’s distance events, adding a gold in the 800 freestyle to her previous wins in the 400 and 1500 freestyle. Kohler hit the wall in a time of 8:17.89 which places her eight in the world rankings. Leonie Beck finished second in a time of 8:25.14 which places her 18th in the world rankings.

Clemens Rapp and Paul Biedermann had an outstanding race in the men’s 400 freestyle. Rapp managed to out touch Biedermann taking the event by one tenth of a second. Rapp took the event in a time of 3:39.50 followed by Biedermann who touched in a time of 3:39.60.

The two men now rank seventh and eighth in the world.

Two other athletes broke into the world’s top 10. Dorthea Brandt took the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 24.06 to put herself into the eighth place position in the rankings while Theresa Michalak won the women’s 100 IM in a time of 59.26 which ranks 10th.

Vanessa Grimberg took the women’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:23.24 which puts her 15th in the world rankings.

Silver: Markus Gierke, Wfr. 98 Hannover, 52.06 seconds

Bronze: Alexander Kunert, SV Gelnhausen, 52.15 seconds

50m Freestyle Women:

Gold: Dorothea Brandt, SG Essen, 24.06 seconds

Silver: Anna Dietterle, SG Neukölln Berlin, 25.05 seconds

Bronze: Nina food, SV Nikar Heidelberg, 25.06 seconds
