Chinese diver Shi Tingmao was the top qualifier out of the women’s 3m Springboard diving competition in Tokyo on Saturday, putting up a final score of 371.45.
Shi, 29, is the defending Olympic champion in this event, and has already won gold and defended one of her titles at the 2020 Games in the 3m synchro event. Shi has also won three straight World Championship titles in the 3m springboard.
Wang Han, who was Shi’s partner in the 3m synchro victory earlier in the competition, qualified second for the final with a score of 346.85, followed by Canada’s Jennifer Abel (341.40), Mexico’s Aranza Vazquez Montana (318.60) and American Krysta Palmer (312.60).
Wang was also the silver medalist to Shi at the 2019 Worlds, while Abel placed fourth in both Rio and Gwangju.
The top 12 divers out of the 18-woman semi-finals advance to the final.

Shi ranked first on her final three dives in the semis, coming back from seventh after the opening round to ultimately claim first easily.
Shi had three of the four highest-scoring divers of the semis, including scoring an 81.00 in the last round, executing the Forward 2½ Somersaults 1 Twist Pike (5152B).
The final of the event is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. local time, or 4:00 a.m. Eastern.
