De Lucca: “I Didn’t Know I Was Going to Go THAT Fast”

Catherine Lee was on deck at the 2014 SMU Classic on Friday night, and caught up with Louisville’s Joao de Lucca: a Brazilian and the defending NCAA Champion in the 200 yard freestyle.

De Lucca swam a 1:33.66 in the 200 free to better the old Pool Record held by one Matt Grevers on Friday night. In the above interview, he talks about how the SMU Classic’s unique format plays perfectly into his competitive nature, which he thinks is the reason why we saw such a fast swim on Friday.
