Colorado College has hired Dallas Tarkenton as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming programs, head coach Anne Goodman James announced today. Tarkenton graduated from the University of Mary Washington in May following a stellar swimming career with the Eagles.
“We are thrilled to have Dallas join our coaching staff,” Goodman James said. “His energy and passion for the sport of swimming will bring great things to our program. His experiences as a coach and a competitor have prepared him well for this position.”
Tarkenton, a great nephew of NFL Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton, earned three All-America honors at UMW. He finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and ninth in the 200 butterfly at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships in Shenendoah, Texas, and eighth in the 100 fly at the 2016 Division III national meet. He also recorded 21 conference titles during his tenure at UMW and was named the school’s Athlete of the Year in 2016.
While at Mary Washington, the Richmond, Va., native served as an assistant swim coach at The Country Club of Virginia and Founders Bridge Country Club during the summer months.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work at Colorado College with Coach James,” Tarkenton said. “CC is such a unique and fantastic community. I can’t wait to expand my horizons in Colorado Springs.”
Tarkenton, who received a bachelor’s degree in communication and digital studies from Mary Washington, will serve as the Tigers’ recruiting coordinator in addition to his on-deck coaching duties.
