Czerniak Posts World’s Fifth Fastest Time In The 100 Butterfly

The third day of competition at the Polish National Championships saw four athletes qualify for the European Championships in Berlin and five for the European Junior Championships in Dordrecht later this summer.

Konrad Czerniak and Pawel Korzeniowski collected the gold and silver in the men’s 100 butterfly both putting up season’s bests and times that were under the European Championships qualifying standard of 52.65. Czerniak’s time of 51.89 puts him into the fifth position in the world rankings. Korzeniowski recorded a time of 52.33.

Mikolaj Machnik was next up to qualify for Berlin winning the men’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:12.63. In the men’s 400 freestyle Filip Zaborowski won the event in a time of 3:49.66 over three seconds faster than the qualifying time of 3:52.80. 18 year old Wojciech Wojdak came second posting a time of 3:51.20, under the qualifying time for Berlin and smashing the European Junior standard of 3:57.14.

Marcin Cieslak was the final senior qualifier of the evening winning the 200 IM in a time of 2:01.11, sneaking under the qualifying time of 2:01.17 by six one-hundredths of a second.

Marcin Stolarski finished second in the men’s 200 breaststroke touching in a time of 2:13.48, not only destroying the European Junior qualifying time of 2:18.81, but also setting a new 18 year old age group. There were two other 18 year olds in the field under the qualifying time for Dordrecht, Marcin Hulboj finished third in a time of 2:14.94 while Bartosz Hoderny finished eighth in a time of 2:17.50.

Paulina Majszutowicz collected silver in the women’s 200 breaststroke finishing in a time of 2:33.49, but the 16 year old was under the European Junior qualifying time of 2:35.28. Agelika Wikiel was also under the time for Dordrecht hitting the wall in a time of 2:34.99.

Alicja Tchorz also collected her fourth and fifth win of the competition taking both the women’s 100 butterfly (1:00.87) and 200 IM (2:15.20).

Aleksandra Urbanczyk won the women’s 50 backstroke in a time of 28.25 just missing her own national record of 28.21.
