CoSport, Rio 2016’s Official Ticket Re-Seller For United States, Temporarily Suspends Olympic Ticket Sales

CoSport, the official re-seller of Rio 2016 Olympic tickets for the United States, is temporarily suspending ticket sales due to technical issues. Today, May 19th, was the scheduled start date for the next phase of Olympic ticket sales. In a statement released by the company, they said they require more time to resolve a technical problem discovered in their final round testing. At this time, an alternative date for ticket sales has not been scheduled.

Below is the official statement released by CoSport:

Please excuse the late notice but in the interest of delivering the best possible Individual Ticket sales experience, we have decided to postpone our next ticket sales phase (previously scheduled for May 19, 2015).

An unforeseen technical issue was identified in our final rounds of testing that will require more time to resolve than we have before the intended launch We remain committed to providing fans uncomplicated access to Individual Tickets and believe the issue we have identified threatens that experience.

No alternative date/time for the next Individual Ticket sales phase has been decided though we will of course share our plans as soon as possible here on the CoSport website as well as via email.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience as we resolve the technical issues identified this evening – should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the CoSport team at your convenience.

You can find the full detailing of the process on the Rio 2016 website here, but SwimSwam’s Jared Anderson boiled down the process below. Fans can register for the Rio Ticket web portal to receive updates on the process as well as reminders about key dates.

We loved the 5 events you helped us purchase tickets for BUT the 5th and final was at 8 pm on Aug. 13. Unfortunately the rooms at San Marco Hotel did not include a room for the 13 of us on that night. We didn’t realize this until the morning of the 13–so spent hours, with help from Hotel staff–to find a place for 5 adults and 8 chidren to sleep that night. The arrangement was VERY expensive. I hope you’ll feel enough responsibility to help with that cost!! How did you miss our hotel for that night????

Have tickets already been mailed out? I purchased mine through a third party and I want to make sure they are already available.

Is there another official ticket agency that I can buy tickets from other than CoSport. Tickets are selling out to the games. Time is of the essence.
