Work has begun on the temporary and permanent pool installations to the Kazan Arena Stadium that will host the 2015 FINA World Aquatics Championships in russia this summer.
The first batch of equipment arrived at the stadium on Sunday, and construction started Monday upon the previous foundations of concrete and sand that had already begun.
The Kazan Arena stadium sits next door to the Kazan Aquatics Palace that will host the diving portion of the event. Its primary function is as a 45,000 seat arena for the soccer team Rubin Kazan of the Russian Premier League, and will play a role in hosting the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
This summer, however, it will play host to the best swimmers (and synchronized swimmers) in the world, with its capacity reduced to 13,000-15,000 seats.
Myrtha will install two temporary 50 meter pools on the soccer pitch: the primary competition pool, plus a temporary training pool that will include the athlete training and massage areas. The competition pool will be 10 lanes wide to allow for 10 lane preliminary sessions – like they did in 2013.
A roof is also being installed onto the outdoor stadium to meet FINA’s preferences to only host swimming indoors at the World Aquatics Championships.
Simultaneously, the outdoor water polo pool will be installed next door to the Kazan Water Palace, which will also be temporary and measure 35mx22m.
July 20th has been set as the date for a test of the pool (though organizers did not give details about what that test will entail), and at that time the pool will be opened to training. The FINA World Aquatics Championshisp will begin on July 24th, with preliminary diving being the first competition. Synchronized swimming is scheduled to get the first crack at the Kazan Arena, beginning on Jluy 25th, with swimming to follow starting August 2nd.

With the temporary roofing structure, seems like a very difficult task.

Anon, I think that Myrtha has the building of the pools down to a science so I doubt that there will be too many issues. If there are, the problems can be fixed quickly.
Putin isn’t one to be trifled with, especially when it comes to Mother Russia being shown in prime time and his reputation is on the line. After all, he is a FINA medal winner. Myrtha understands whom they are doing business with and for, and will have everything in tip top shape if they want to be paid.
20 July test date and 24 July competition start date? That seems to be a quick turn around for the pools. That’s not much allowance time for mistakes.
