The National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) is trying to build upon the popularity of their spring championship meet with their summer long course Junior National Championships this year, hosting the meet at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The meet lost one of its big headliners, as National High School Record holder Jack Conger, who was scheduled to swim the meet, has been scratched out in the latest version of the psych sheets, which were released today.
See the newest psych sheet here.
This meet runs concurrently with the US Open Championships, which Conger will not be at either after psych sheets were released today. His coach Sue Chen Tweeted earlier this week that Conger would be getting his wisdom teeth out after returning home from the World University Games, which is the likely reason for his absence from these summer-ending championship meets.
See Troy Gennaro’s original post on the meet here, where several other notable name swimmers are mentioned.
Looks like he wanted to swim summer league instead. http://mcslorg0000.web802.discountasp.net/results/2013/ASI-7-23.html
As a former MCSLer, this is a thrilling prospect. I remember watching Michael Raab as a kid and being inspired to keep training hard. Conger’s appearance will undoubtedly capture the imagination of local area swimmers.
I’m calling 52.99 and 23.75 for back/fly (for non-MSCL folk, this is SCM with no starting block). As far as I know, MCSL has never seen such world class times for 15-18 men.
Well shit. I’m trying to motivate my senior swimmers to think bigger than local meets. I think I even used him as an example – “Do you think Jack Conger is going to summer league meets?! NO!” Crap. And I encourage them to read this site as well. Hopefully they skip over this post.
His coach earlier tweeted that Jack was having his tonsils or wisdom teeth taken out after WUGs. Make sense with him going to college soon.
