The third day of the 2018 Chrisitansburg Sectionals featured the 200 fly, 50 free, 200 breast, 100 back, 500 free, 200 medley relay, and the 400 free relay.
Retriever Aquatic Club’s Morgan Liberto dominated the 200 fly. She nearly eclipsed the 2 minute barrier, touching in 2:00.12, almost four seconds ahead of everyone else. Liberto doubled up on the night, also winning the 100 back toward the end of the session with at time of 55.81. Liberto has committed to swim for Alabama next year. Monocacy Aquatic Club’s Natalie Kucson, a LSU commit, won an excruciatingly close race in the 50 free. She touched out Penn State commit Madison Ledwith of Retriever by the narrowest of margins, 23.79 to 23.80. The 200 breast was another tight race, with Snow’s Shelby Gerving holding off the Seahawks’ Katie McClintock, 2:19.50 to 2:29.99. Maggie Wallace has yet to lose a freestyle event this week; tonight she won the 500 free in 4:47.94, adding that title to her previous victories in the 200 and 1000 yard freestyles, and continues to show she’ll be a solid addition to Indiana’s roster next year. In relay action, the Eagle Swim Team won the 200 medley relay with at time of 1:45.29, while Nation’s Capital won the 400 free relay in 3:28.60.
Kevin Lind of Monocacy earned his win of the meet with a 1:49.38 in the 200 fly. Egg Harbor Seahawks’ Jospeh Roger won a narrow race in the 50 free, touching out Nittany Lion Aquatic Club’s Matthew Brownstead 20.98 to 21.05. Severna Park Stingrays’ Jackson Schultz won the 200 breast with a 2:01.90, touching over a second and a half ahead of anyone else in the field. Christian Bell of the Seahawks picked up the victory in the 100 back with a time of 49.44, after coming in 2nd in the 200 fly earlier in the session. Lancaster Aquatic Club’s Joseph Moll earned his 2nd win of the meet a with 4:35.36 win in the 500 free to go along with his 400 IM title yesterday. Machine Aquatics won both relays today, taking the 400 free relay with a 3:07.91 and the 200 medley relay in 1:33.93.
