Logan Schaefer has decided to accept a coaching position at Columbus High School and Donner Swim Club. Via an announcement by athletic director Jeff Hester today, Schaefer will coach for Columbus High in the 2016-17 season, as well as for Donner Swim Club.
“As a swimmer in Indiana, I long have been aware of and respected the tradition of the Columbus North and Donner programs,” Schaefer said. “Both programs have had a high level of success over the years, and I want to help them reestablish strong programs in the state of Indiana. I look forward to helping athletes be successful in both the high school and club programs.”
Schaefer graduated from Southridge High School in 2011, where he was a four-time MVP and helped the team to four conference championships. From there, Schaefer decided to attend Indiana University, and after one year of competing in the pool, he decided to move from the pool to the deck to start help coaching. Schaefer joined coach Looze in coaching the breaststroke group, and part of this group was standout Cody Miller. Schaefer took personal interest in Miller and has served as his personal coach for two years. Since Miller was named to the National Team, Schaefer was also named to the list of National Team Coaches, a huge honor for someone as young as Schaefer.
Schaefer graduated IU with a major in Kinesiology and started coaching for his alma matter, Southridge High School.
“My year at Southridge allowed me to establish a program and gain the experience of preparing athletes for conference, sectional and championship-level meets,” he said. “It has been extremely valuable in learning the high school system.”
Donner Swim Club was formed in 1948 and is one of Indiana’s oldest and most successful clubs. The club serves hundreds of swimmers, utilizing two indoor natatoriums and an outdoor Olympic-sized pool.
Just saying, but I find it highly unlikely that Logan was actually writing practices for Cody Miller. My guess is that he assisted Ray Looze with the breaststroke group and got the opportunity to ‘claim’ Cody as his swimmer
What part of “Schaefer took personal interest in Miller and has served as his personal coach for two years.” don’t you understand? Just sayin’…
Congratulations Logan!
