Coach’s Log: Earn Your Turn with Matt Kredich

*Video produced by SwimSwam contributor Coleman Hodges.*

Matt Kredich is using an early season approach to turns that he got from Tennessee Assistant coach Bill Boomer. The Volunteers have yet to do a full turn this season. Matt has a great line that he shares in the interview, “Whatever you’re practicing, you’re getting better at.”

With that in mind, he is taking the team through a very specific turn progression. He explains that progression, his approach to early season yardage vs early season details, and this set that the Volunteers did this fall:

4 x 30 yd sprints = pushoff à exit -à no wall turn at the 15à return underwater
4 x 50 freestyle @ 40 – excellent walls, low stroke count, HR 150 by # 4
4 x 75 @ 10 sec rest – same as above
3 x 100 @ 10 sec rest – ”
2 x 125 @ 10 sec rest – ”
1 x 150 @ 10 sec rest – ”

Round 1 freestyle – all HR 150 (50 beats below max)
Round 2 IM – all HR 150 (50 beats below max)
75s fly/ba/br
100’s IM
125’s free
150 free

Love this. They spent time practicing what they want to do at the end of the season. I would love to hear more about this from Coach Kredich!
