Texas-commit and #3 in the class of 2023 Nate Germonprez swam a best time in the 100 breast at the 2022 DSMY Skywalk Open in Des Moines, IA. It was the only swim he raced at the meet.

Germonprez swam a time of 54.10 in the prelims, dropping four-tenths from his previous best time of 54.52. In the finals, Germonprez added a little time to go 54.16, but was still well under his previous best time. His time ranks 19th in the 17-18 age group, and fifth among 17-year olds this season.

Germonprez will provide a ton of versatility for Texas. Texas will join the SEC in 2025, with Germonprez’s times in several events being good enough to score already. His time in the 200 free would have qualified for the A final, his time in the 200 IM and 100 back would have qualified for the B final, while his 50 free, 200 back, and 100 fly would have qualified for the C final at the last edition of the SEC Championships.

Top Times (Short Course Yards)

  • 200 IM: 1:44.92
  • 400 IM: 3:56.01
  • 50 free: 19.91
  • 100 free: 43.86
  • 200 free: 1:34.19
  • 100 back: 47.22
  • 200 back: 1:45.14
  • 100 breast: 54.10
  • 200 breast: 1:58.27
  • 100 fly: 47.50

His versatility compares to other recent Texas recruits, like Tim Connery and Anthony Grimm, who are strong in all four strokes and provide flexibility for Texas. As a freshman, Connery has swam the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM for Texas at meets this year.

Grimm has had even more range his freshman year, competing in the 50 free, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, 200 IM, and the 200/400 medley relays this season. Germonprez could see a similar diversity of events as Connery and Grimm when he starts his collegiate career.

Other members of the class of 2023 currently heading to Texas include #1 Will Modglin, #20 Will Scholtz, and “Best of the Rest” Logan Walker.

The breaststroke swims in Des Moines were basically time trials, as the only other kid in the race went like a 1:07 (low turnout in that age group due to it being high school boys season).

Dang, that is a ridiculous best times list for a 17 year old!

Texas desperately need someone to step up and replace Caspar when he graduates next year.
