CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati swimming and diving got off to a strong start this semester as it completed the meet sweep of Kenyon and Oakland on Saturday afternoon.

CINCINNATI – The Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished in the top two spots in a combined 13 races on day two of competition against University of Cincinnati and Kenyon College Saturday from the Keating Aquatic Center.

On the women’s side, the Golden Grizzlies tallied six first place finishes. Katie Colwell was a part of three top finishes including the 50 free (23.94), 200 free relay (1:36.55) with Karlee Marsh, Kirstyn Abbasse, and Grace Shinske, and the 400 medley relay (3:49.11) alongside teammates Shinske, Taylor Bailey and Susan LaGrand.

Bailey, LaGrand and Sohvi Nenonen also recorded individual first place finishes. Bailey finishes first in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.93), LaGrand in the 200 backstroke (2:01.54) and 200 IM (2:04.93), and Nenonen placed first in the 200 butterfly (2:06.40).

The Oakland men were led by Marko Khotynetskyi who placed second in the 200 backstroke (1:48.29) and the 200 IM (1:53.14).

The relay team of Christian Bart, Mack Flowers, Ryan Geheb, and Rudy Aguilar swam to a second place finish in the 200 free in a time of 1:23.63.

The Golden Grizzlies travel to East Lansing to take on Michigan State Saturday, Jan. 18 beginning at 2 p.m. at McCaffree Pool.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Kenyon men’s swimming and diving team won three relay events and tied for first in another over the two-day University of Cincinnati Invite this weekend inside the UC Campus Recreation Center. By meet’s end against the Division I Bearcats and Oakland University (D1), the Lords claimed third place.

Kenyon’s grouping of David Fitch, Joe Black, Marcus Hong and Tommy Weiss got things going in the 200-yard medley relay with a ‘B’ cut time of 1:31.06. 

That quartet teamed up again to claim first during the 200 free relay (1:23.46). They edged Oakland’s ‘A’ team by 0.23 seconds. 

Kenyon’s third relay victory was delivered by Fitch, Weiss, Luis Weekes and Cheran De Silva. During the 400-yard medley relay, they earned a ‘B’ cut time of 3:19.79. Rounding out relay competition, Black, Weiss, Fitch and Chris Rutter tied for the top spot in the 400 free relay with Oakland (3:03.32). 

The Lords also got individual event wins from Fitch and senior Connor Rumpit. 

Fitch touched the wall of the 50 free in 20.86 while Rumpit won the 500-yard free in NCAA qualifying time of 4:30.72. Additionally, Fitch took the runner-up spot of the 100 back (49.80) while De Silva earned silver in the 200 fly (1:51.90). 

Rounding out Kenyon’s top marks included a runner-up finish on the 3-meter board from Drew Albrecht as he secured 260.00 points and a third-place mark from Bryan Fitzgerald in the 400 IM (4:05.04). 

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Utilizing a split squad and facing NCAA Division I competition, the Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving team scored 391 points and placed third at Saturday morning’s conclusion of the two-day University of Cincinnati Invitational. The host Bearcats won the event with 784 points, while the Golden Grizzlies from Oakland University took second place with 749 points.

The Ladies were not able to come away with any event wins, but juniors Crile Hart and Makena Markert combined to log four, top-three finishes. Hart took runner-up spots in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke races. She cleared the shorter distance in 56.86 and the longer distance in 2:05.32. Hart also posted a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:09.64.

Markert took care of business in the breaststroke events, placing second in the 100 and third in the 200. Her respective times were 1:06.23 and 2:26.64.

Freshmen Olivia Smith and Ania Axas turned in a couple more top-five finishes for the Ladies. Smith placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 59.35. Axas then added another fifth-place showing in the 200-yard butterfly, stopping the clock at 2:11.84.

In relays, Hart and Markert continued to power the Kenyon team. The two paired with Summer Otazu and Emmie Mirus to record a second-place time of 1:46.16 in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Hart joined Mirus, Caylee Hamilton and Andrea Perttula to take third place with a time of 1:37.51.
