IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Christie Chue, Sophomore, FIU
Chue won five individual events over two dual meets, including wins over Florida Gulf Coast on January 18 and Florida Atlantic on Jan. 28. The sophomore won the 50-yard freestyle (24.04) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.54) against FGCU and won the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.22) and swept the breaststroke events (100 – 1:02.67, 200 – 2:16.42) against FAU.

WOMEN’S DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maha Gouda, Graduate Student, FIU
Gouda swept the springboard events in dual meets against Florida Gulf Coast on January 18 and Florida Atlantic on Jan. 28. She earned scores of 290.98 on 1-meter and 296.55 on 3-meter against FGCU and recorded an identical score of 318.98 on both boards against Florida Atlantic.

MEN’S SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Hunter Gubeno, Junior, Cincinnati
Gubeno won six of seven individual events over three dual meets. He picked up three event wins against Xavier on January 20 with wins in the 100-yard freestyle (45.59), 100-yard backstroke (49.48) and 200-yard individual medley (1:50.71). Then on back-to-back days, he won the 200 backstroke against Kentucky and Louisville on Jan. 27 and 28. He also won the 100 backstroke against the Cardinals.

MEN’S DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Peter Smithson, Senior, SMU
Smithson finished second in the 3-meter event in an NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 358.50 against No. 10 Texas A&M. He also finished fourth in the 1-meter event with a score of 299.55.
