China Searching For Diving Sweep After Winning Gold In Men’s 10M Synchro

China won their second gold medal in diving at the 2024 Paris Olympics as Lian Junjie and Yang Hao won the men’s 10m synchro event on Monday. China is in search of the eight diving event sweep after winning seven out of eight events in Tokyo.

Lian and Yang led from the start posting a 56.40 in round 1 to already put them in the lead. Their highest scoring dive came in the final round as they scored a 103.23. They finished with a final score of a 490.35. The event was redemption for the Chinese as the men’s 10m synchro event was the only diving event that the country did not win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Tom Daley and Matty Lee were the two men that came between China and its sweep in Tokyo as the two won gold in the 10m synchro event. This time around, Daley and his new synchro partner Noah Williams won silver in a 463.44. The two were in second place the whole competition. Daley and Wiliams were the only other competitors to have a single round diver over 90 points as they had two and Lian and Yang had three.

Canada’s Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray made history with their bronze medal in a final score of a 422.13. The two became Canada’s first medalists in history in the men’s 10m event.

China already won gold on day 1 of competition, winning the women’s 3-meter synchronized springboard and will continue its quest for 8-for-8 later this week.

That Chinese president who threw abuse at all the judges at the last Olympics for not scoring her divers high enough is apparently giving some good gifts behind the scenes
