China Completes Diving Sweep As Cao Yuan Wins Men’s 10m Platform

China has swept gold in all eight diving events at the 2024 Paris Olympics after Cao Yuan won the men’s 10 meter platform event, the final diving event of the Games.

This marks the first time that a country has swept the diving program since the number of diving events was expanded from four to eight events at the 2000 Sydney Games. China was just one away at the 2020 Tokyo Games as Great Britain captured gold in the men’s 10 meter synchro event.

Cao defended his gold medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as he won then in a score of 582.35. He had a final score of 547.50 today, and had his highest dive in round three as he scored a 97.20.

Winning silver today was Tamai Rikuto of Japan who dove to a final score of 507.65. That earned Japan its first (and only) diving medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics. After a 5th round score of a 39.10, he finished the competition strong with a 99.00 on the final round, moving him from 3rd to 2nd.

Great Britain’s Noah Williams won silver in the men’s 10 meter synchro event already in Paris and added bronze to his medal haul. He had a final score of a 497.35. His final two dives were his strongest, moving him up the ranking at the right time as he sat off of the potential podium until moving in to third after the final round. He scored a 93.60 in round 5 and a 94.35 in round 6.

Mexico should have won men’s 3m synchro. Some weird judging in that one

No American men today on 10 meter finals (top 12)!
Of course China dominated medal standings!
Point of interest: Mexico won two medals and dove well all week. Their national team coach is Chinese. USA’s only medal was women’s synchro. One of the synchro divers is Sarah Bacon who is coached by a Chinese coach at U of Minn!
