The first glimpse of the U.S. Olympic Team’s gear was given via the star-sleeved shirts worn during the swimming roster’s introduction on the final night of Trials at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
Now, however, we can envision our favorite swim stars standing atop the Rio podium in the official outfits created by Nike, courtesy of the recently released uniform pictures provided by the United States Olympic Committee.
Created by NikeLabs, the podium attire is highlighted by a fitted jacket adorned with United States’ colors of red, white and blue. The ribbed knit sleeves provide breathability and mobility, while “Team USA” is engineered directly into the back mesh of the jacket, according to teamusa.org.
“The medal-stand uniforms for the 2016 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams epitomize Nike’s unmatched innovation,” said Lisa Baird, USOC chief marketing officer. “Nike has perfectly blended strength, style and patriotism. When America’s finest athletes are standing proudly on top of the podium, they will represent all Americans with a sense of style and poise.”
“Stepping onto the podium is a singular moment preceded by countless hours of dedication and hard work,” said Martin Lotti, Nike Global Brand Experience – VP, Creative. “We wanted the medal-stand uniform for 2016 to be a reflection of that dedication. With 15 months of prototyping to create this bespoke and hand-crafted look grounded in our best innovation, athletes will look and feel their best as they celebrate this incredible achievement.”
The Nikelab Team’s USA Dynamic Reveal Jackets will be available nike.com/nikelab, select NikeLab stores and TeamUSAShop.com.
i like it
the tee shirt with the star sleeves look like PJs. I like the podium attire.
The nike looks slick but a tad generic, the long sleeve shirts pictured above are over the top. The nike design looks based on the T&F kits that about a dozen countries will wear. That said I like the HBC podium kits Canada will be wearing more than this design. I guess we can ask after Rio which kits were in demand for trades.
I though USA swimming was sponsored by Arena
This is for all sports. Not just swimming.
Frankly, I could care less if they put a burlap bag on me. To stand on the podium with a medal around your neck is the ultimate.
I prefer the 2012 podium jackets. They were so sick!
Nice save after the PJs look from Sunday night…
