ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s program will be well represented as the swimming portion at the 2015 FINA World Championships gets under way next week at Kazan Arena Stadium in Russia.
Melanie Margalis, Shannon Vreeland, Nicolas Fink and Chase Kalisz will represent the United States, while Matias Koski (Finland) and Chantal Van Landeghem (Canada) will compete in their respective countries’ colors.
Kalisz, Koski and Van Landeghem are seniors for Georgia, but Kalisz and Van Landeghem are expected to redshirt in 2015-16 to train for the Olympics in Brazil. Margalis, Vreeland and Fink have completed their collegiate eligibility.
The swimming events will begin on Sunday and will continue through the following Sunday. Forty-two of the Championships’ 75 aquatics medals will be up for grabs during that span.
Also, high diving will take place starting on Monday and former Lady Bulldog Ginger Fields Huber will be participating for the United States.
Former Lady Bulldog Laura Ryan will be competing for the United States on the 3-meter springboard as diving concludes this week. Ryan, who came in ninth with Abby Johnston on 3-meter synchro earlier in the Championships, will be in action on the 3-meter prelims on Friday.
Diving coach Dan Laak is a member of the United States staff as well.
