Chadwick Sweeps Sprints at Mizzou’s Show Me Showdown

To open the 2015-16 season, the University of Missouri hosted the Show Me Showdown with competition from teams across the state. Making his season debut, USA National Team member Michael Chadwick won the sprint double in dominating fashion.

His first win came in the 50 free, where he clocked a 20.27 to claim victory. Shortly behind him, Mizzou teammate Andrew Sansoucie also dipped under 21 with a 20.75. Drury’s Rodrigo Caceres Acosta rounded out the top 3, just a couple of tenths behind Sansoucie with a 20.94.

Chadwick followed up that win by taking home the title in the 100 free. He hit the wall in 44.20, well ahead of a tight race for the 2nd and 3rd positions behind him. Coming in 2nd to lead that bunch was Missouri State’s Uvis Kalnins with a quick 45.15. Mizzou’s Mikel Schreuders raced to the finish to grab 3rd ahead of Drury’s Daniel Rzadkowski, 45.90 to 45.97.

In the men’s 100 breast, WKU transfer Fabian Schwingenschlogl left his mark for Missouri. He posted a 54.63 to win the event, almost 2 seconds faster than anyone else in the field. His teammate Eddie Mapel was the next fastest in 56.48, with Drury’s Andrea Bazzoli taking 3rd behind him in 56.53.

On the women’s side in that event, Missouri swept the top 3. Abby Duncan was the fastest of the Tigers, posting a 1:00.56. Also touching the wall under 1:01 was Katharine Ross (1:00.70). Miranda Mercke closed out the top 3 with a 1:05.65.

Ross and Duncan also went head to head in the 200 IM. In that race, it was Ross who cemented the win, touching in 2:02.71. Duncan was a second behind to take 2nd in 2:03.71. Teammate Ellie Suek captured 3rd with a 2:06.27.

Mizzou sophomore Hannah Stevens grabbed a win in the 100 back. She posted a 55.52 to edge out teammate Nadine Laemmler (55.87). Also finishing in the top 3 for Missouri was Maddie Gehrke (57.40).

That win was the back half of a double for Stevens. She also put up a 51.59 to win the 100 free over Drury’s Wen Xu (51.96). Rachel Hayden was 3rd behind them with a 52.59.
