Chad Le Clos Records Two Wins on Second Day of Treviso Cup

On the second day of the Treviso Swim Cup held in Itlay, South Africa’s Chad Le Clos did what he does best and won the two events in which he swam. Le Clos did not attend the first day of the meet, but won both the 100 fly and 200 free today.

Le Clos won the 100 fly (52.62) by almost 2 seconds to Dylan Bosch who came in 2nd with a time of 54.15. Le Clos also won the 200 free (1:46.68), besting the meet record from last year which was a 1:48.45 by Devon Myles Brown. This year, Brown came in second to Le Clos in a time of 1:48.63. Bosch came in 4th in the event (1:51.88), followed closely by Calvyn Justus (1:52.53).

The 50 free was won by Douglas Erasmus, who won the 100 free yesterday. Erasmus won the event by almost a second, clocking a time of 22.67. With Cameron Van der Bergh absent, Jarred Crous was able to inch out the field in the 100 breast, swimming the event in a time of 1:01.61.

On the women’s side, the 200 free was won by Vittoria Grotto, who swam it in a time of 2:05.41.

Jessica Beukes, who captured the 100 back yesterday, won the 200 back (2:22.64) by a margin of almost 4 seconds. The 50 free was dominated by last year’s winner, Giorgia Biondani, who tied her meet record time to win the event (25.66).

Thanks for to video clip. King Chad looks ripped. He could be 1.44+ on the relay lead off in Rio. Makes one think that his 200 fly is going to be very fast.

The prince looks good I agree on that. The 200 free was fast and I thought he coasted into that 3rd wall a bit.

I know this has nothing to do with the article but there are some fast times being done at provincial championships in Toronto this week.
Britney Maclean went 4:09, 8:29 for 400 and 800 free
Javier Acevedo went 50.5 for 100 free, negative split 25.6/24.9
Tristian Cote went 8:08 for 800 free
Ryan Telford went 2:18 and 1:04 for the breasts

Laslo has been the most consistent over the past year. What a story that would be. He’s been on the Olympic podiums since 2004 but no individual golds so far.

SwimSwam, why is there no news on the French Open at Vichy?

Not a bad time for Le Clos in the 200 free in the middle of a hard block of training. The 100 fly looks a little slow, but he’s going to defeat all comers in Rio. Not long to go before the taper starts.

Yeah, but 52.6? Unless he downright was out for a swim around the lagoon, that is incredibly light for a date this late. I’m inclined to believe he was pulling it way back, as he had no real competitors, as the article says. If not and it’s just a non-taper…hmmmm. I still think it’s at least LeClos, Cseh and Michael coming to the wall together the way Phelps, Shields, Stubblefield and Conger did last night. Maybe even more tightly bunched than that. Whatever the time…which I think will be mid/high 50. But you know: Michael … always … gets it done. There’s never been a greater last five (or ten, or twenty-five) meters racer in history, along with all of… Read more »

Did you forget Joe Schooling, or you don’t think he’ll be there with the big three?

Also, Chad does not usually swim fast in season.

I believe you to be wise and unbiased. I no longer think Phelps, Le Clos or Cseh will win now.
