CAS Hearing Between WADA, RUSADA Wraps Up

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) concluded as scheduled on Thursday.

The hearing, which took place in Lausanne, had the majority of participants join virtually due to strict coronavirus precautions.

The Arbitral Panel will now deliberate and prepare its decision, which is expected sometime before the end of 2020. The panel includes Judge Mark L. Williams, S.C. (Australia), President, Prof. Luigi Fumagalli (Italy) and Dr. Hamid G. Gharavi (France / Iran).

The hearing was initially supposed to take place before the end of April prior to the pandemic.

The case dates back to September of 2019, when an independent WADA compliance committee opened a case against RUSADA and recommended that it be declared non-compliant for a period of four years in September.

RUSADA had been reinstated as compliant back in September of 2018, with one of the conditions being that the authorities had to grant WADA Intelligence and Investigations access to the authentic Laboratory Information Management System data and underlying raw analytical data contained within the Moscow Laboratory.
