Carthage Teams Remain In Lead Of CCIW Championships After Day 2

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — Carthage maintained its lead on both the men’s and women’s side following Friday’s finals session of the 2020 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming & Diving Championships at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex.

In the men’s team standings, the Red Men lead with a team score of 561, followed by Wheaton (483.5), Illinois Wesleyan (368), Augustana (347), Carroll (264), Millikin (233.5) and North Central (65).

In the women’s team standings, the Lady Reds lead with a team score of 600.5, followed by Wheaton (517), Augustana (382), Illinois Wesleyan (235), Millikin (207.5), North Central (98) and Carroll (85).

Saturday’s preliminary session will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s 200-yard backstroke. A ceremony will then take place at 5 p.m. to honor and recognize senior student-athletes for their career accomplishments. The finals will begin at 6 p.m. with the men’s 1,650-yard freestyle.

The Carthage men will look to win its fourth-straight CCIW title, while the Lady Reds are going for their third-straight conference title. Wheaton leads all conference programs with the most men’s titles (27) and the most women’s titles (25).

On Friday evening, Carthage set a pair of men’s meet records. Cooper Hawkins’ first-place time of 3:57.26 in the 400 IM broke the previous record of 3:57.54 set by Illinois Wesleyan’s Marcus Duval in 2014. Mitchell Mages broke his own meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.39), topping his previous time of 55.47 last season.
