GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Molly Carlson, Virginia’s Paige Madden and Louisville’s Nicolas Albiero headline the 2020 All-ACC Academic Swimming & Diving Teams as Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Carlson, the 2020 ACC Women’s Diver of the Year, majors in psychology and has a 3.841 GPA for her career. The senior from Toronto, Canada, was named the ACC Championships Most Valuable Diver for the third time this past season, winning the 3-meter springboard and platform competitions while placing second in the 1-meter event. Carlson earned All-America honors in all three diving categories and received All-ACC Academic laurels for the fourth straight year.

Madden, the 2020 ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Year, majors in kinesiology and minors in health & wellbeing with a 3.63 career GPA. The junior from Mobile, Alabama, was named the ACC Championships Most Valuable Swimmer after winning all five of her races. Madden won the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle events and was on the first-place squads for the 400 and 800 free relays. She was named an All-American in all five events and received her third consecutive All-ACC Academic honors.

A junior from Louisville, Kentucky, Albiero has a 3.952 GPA and majors in health & human performance in exercise science. The Cardinal swimmer was named an All-American in the 100 backstroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, 400 and 800 freestyle relays and the 400 medley relay, winning both fly events at the ACC Championships. Albiero is a three-time All-ACC Academic honoree.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
