Jarrett Jones of the Cape Cod Swim Club in Massachusetts has verbally committed to the Louisville Cardinals.
Jones is primarily a 200 butterflier/IM’er, but ranges well across all of the middle distances (including especially the 500 free).
His best times in yards:
- 200 free – 1:45.24
- 500 free – 4:28.25
- 200 fly – 1:48.55
- 200 IM – 1:51.97
- 400 IM – 3:51.64
Jones will be the replacement at this spot for Nolan Tesone, who graduates after this season. The difference is that Jones couples his IM’s with the 200 fly, instead of the 200 back. While the Cardinals have excelled in training 200 backstrokers, the 200 fly has never been much of a strength for the men’s program – outside of a few solid years by Pedro Oliveira, though even then he was better in long course than short course.
The Louisville women’s team however, had the best 1-2 punch in the 200 fly in the country last season with NCAA Champion Kelsi Worrell and 5th-place finisher Tanja Kylliainen, so this is not totally foreign territory for the coaching staff either.
Congratulations Jarrett on becoming a Cardinal! You are a true role model for the sport of swimming and a fine young man. You have made Cape Cod Swim Club and NE Swimming very proud. Keep up the good work and best of luck at Louisville!
Best of luck to not only one of best swimmers, but also one of the nicest people. Keep making NE swimming proud!
