Canadian Championships – Day Three Prelims

The third day of the 2014 Canadian Championships started with both the women’s and men’s 200 freestyle champions qualifying with the top times in the 400 freestyle.

200 freestyle champion Danica Ludlow was the top qualifier in the women’s 400 freestyle posting a time of 4:20.15, which is well off her season’s best of 4:15.70. Savannah King of UBC qualified second in a time of 4:20.97 followed by Sherry Liu of Hyack who finished in a time of 4:20.99.

Jeremy Bagshaw of Island Swimming, who collected gold in both the 100 and 200 freestyle earlier in the meet, will be going into the final of the men’s 400 freestyle with the top ranked time of 3:55.38. Bagshaw’s teammate Keegan Zanatta qualified second in a time of 3:56.50 followed by Kier Maitland of the Keyano who qualified in a time of 3:57.31. Eric Hedlin, who should be a medal threat in tonight’s final, qualified seventh in a time of 3:59.81.

Noemie Thomas of UBC was the top qualifier in the women’s 100 butterfly recording a time of 58.32 while in the men’s event Island Swimming’s Alec Page, who won the 400 IM last evening, was the top qualifier posting a time of 54.82.

Oak’s Dominique Bouchard, who won the women’s 100 backstroke on the first night of competition, was the fastest qualifier in the 200 backstroke recording a time of 2:12.44. Meryn McCann of ESwim qualified second in a time of 2:14.59 followed by Bouchard’s teammate Annie Harrison who posted a time of 2:17.05.

On the men’s side Matt Meyers of the Toronto Swim Club was the top qualifier touching in a time of 2:03.96.

In the women’s 50 breaststroke Rachel Nicol of the Lethbridge Amateur Swim Club was the top qualifier posting a time of 31.38. She was followed by the 100 breaststroke champion Fiona Doyle of the University of Calgary Swim Club who qualified in a time of 31.74.

Sergey Holson of UBC was the top qualifier in the men’s 50 breaststroke followed by Konrad Bald of GHAC who posted a time of 28.82.
