With Canada’s Pan Pac roster finalized after the Canadian National meet, the country has now added its open water slots to the squad.
The final selection event for the 3 open water spots on both the men’s and women’s sides was the Fran Crippen Cup in Florida. Richard Weinberger, Olympic bronze medalist, had already secured his spot prior to the Crippen Cup, but finished second overall to gain some momentum heading into Pan Pacs.
Other men’s spots went to Eric Hedlin (4th overall) and Philippe Guertin (5th).
For the women, Jade Dusablon was the highest Canadian finisher in 4th place, punching her ticket to the gold coast. Joining her on the roster will be Leonie Pamerleau and Heather Maitland.
Marc-Andre Pelletier was named the open water coach for the Pan Pacs team. He coaches Quebec City, which Pamerleau represented at the Crippen Cup.
Marc-Andre Pelletier does coach in Quebec City, but actually coaches for a club team – CSQ – for which Jade Dusablon swims.
Leonie Pamerleau swims in Quebec City for the University of Laval under Nicolas Perron.
