The following is a press release courtesy of Campbell University:

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Pascal Molinard has announced Campbell Swimming record-holder Cheriesse Campbell as an assistant coach.

“As a swimmer, Cheriesse was wonderful,” said CU head coach Pascal Molinard. “She gave everything to this university for four years, and I am excited to give her this opportunity. I always knew she had this in her, and I’m excited to work with her and see her grow as a coach. She knows how we do things in this program, the team has always respected her as a swimmer, and they do now as a coach.”

“I’ve enjoyed encouraging this team from the pool, and I look forward to continuing that from the decks,” said Campbell. “I’ve grown up in this sport, it is part of my life, and I am excited to continue it as a coach. I want to thank the university, its administration and Pascal for this opportunity, and for trusting me in this position. I am very excited to begin my coaching career at Campbell.”

A Sunrise, Fla. native, Campbell was a four-year letterwinner for the Camels from 2010-14, setting school records individually in the 200 and 400 freestyle. She also helped set relay marks in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle in addition to the 400 medley.

A two-time Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association All-Academic selection, Campbell was selected for the Camels’ Unsung Hero award at the 2014 CAMMYS, the CU Athletics yearly awards show.

Campbell began her coaching career at the club level, volunteering with her former squad, the Plantation Swim Team. There, she helped instruct younger swimmers, mostly ages 6-12.

Campbell graduated from CU in May 2014 with a B.S. in exercise science.

The Camels went 11-3 overall in 2013-14, breaking 17 of 23 school records.

Campbell wrapped up 2013-14 competition in the CSCAA Collegiate Classic National Invitational, the team’s first postseason appearance, breaking seven new school records and taking fifth in the postseason event.

The Camels also achieved Scholar All-American status from the CSCAA. 16 Camels recorded an individual GPA of 3.0 or better for the fall 2013 semester, with senior Maggie Pogue leading the way with a perfect 4.0. Nine registered a 3.5 or better GPA.

The Camels broke nine school records this season at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association’s Championships, with senior Kylie Warne earning All-CCSA honors in the 1,650 free, 200 IM and 400 IM.
