California Breaststroker Sean Kim Signs on with Florida Southern Mocs

Sean Kim, who swims for George Young at Southern California’s San Gabriel Sea Gulls, has signed his National Letter of Intent with Florida Southern College.

“I don’t mind being one of the few kids that moves from California all the way to Florida. The swim community in Florida is all amazingly interconnected and I can’t wait to go back and see all the coaches I visited. I have some family there and Lakeland seems like a great place to be. I can’t wait to empower the breaststroke legacy at Florida Southern. I’m ready.”

Kim is a versatile swimmer with Junior Nationals cuts in the 100 breast. He participated at Winter Juniors in Greensboro last December and plans to swim in Federal Way next month. Kim represented Southern California Swimming at the North American Challenge Cup in Veracruz, Mexico last summer, where he won the 100m breast with 1:05.64.

Kim’s best times include:

100y breast: 58.50 100m breast: 1:05.64
200y breast: 2:04.80 200m breast: 2:24.31
50y free: 21.59 50m free: 24.59
100y free: 49.34 100m free: 56.64
100y fly: 51.92 100m fly: 1:01.26
200y IM: 1:57.55 200m IM: 2:16.61

At the 2014 SSC Championships last February, Kim would have made the A-final in the 200 breast and the B-final in the 100 breast. He was also just on the bubble for a second swim in both the 100 fly and 200 IM. Kim will join an excellent group of breaststrokers at Florida Southern, which should help him further develop into a great asset for the team.
