STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 2 California wrapped up a busy split-squad weekend with a win at the Pacific Invite at Chris Kjeldsen Pool on Saturday afternoon. With 16 of Cal’s top swimmers having already topped Utah for a Pac-12 win Friday in Salt Lake City, the Golden Bears flexed their depth a day later by touching first in 11 of 14 events to best Pacific and UC Santa Cruz.
Cal notched 244 points in the win to place ahead of Pacific (187.5) and UC Santa Cruz (116.5).

The Bears’ first individual win of the afternoon was delivered by Kai Crews in the 100 backstroke (50.22); Cal went 1-2-3 in the event with Kyle Millis (50.52) and Evan Petty (51.78) close behind Crews. It was the first of two victories by Crews, who added a 1:49.65 win in the 200 back to sweep the stroke. Jacques Laeuffer also had an individual sweep in the breaststroke events, taking the 100 in 56.85 and the 200 in 2:02.48.
Other individual wins came from Tavis Siebert in the 200 butterfly (1:55.37), Matthew Jensen in the 50 free (20.61), Dylan Hawk in the 100 free (45.19), Trent Frandson in the 500 free (4:38.07) and Jack Meehan in the 400 individual medley (4:03.96).
Victories in the 400-yard medley (3:22.43) and 400 freestyle (3:01.93) relays started and finished the productive invitational meet for the Bears.
UP NEXT
Cal will host rival Stanford in the annual Triple Distance Meet at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Friday, Nov. 5. The Bears and Cardinal will swim three distances of one stroke, with individuals racing at 50, 100 and 200 yards in each event. Distance freestylers will race the 200, 500 and 1,000 while IM specialists swim the 100, 200 and 400 IM. Both teams will also compete in a pair of relay events.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women’s swimming team is off to a strong start to its season after it picked up a pair of victories, winning the Pacific Invite over UC Santa Cruz and San Jose State at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool on Saturday. The Tigers recorded 291.5 points ahead of 121 for UC Santa Cruz and 112.50 for San Jose State.
En route to securing the team title, the Tigers were victorious in 10 of 14 events, followed by six second-place finishes and seven third-place finishes. Pacific recorded one personal best and 17 season-best marks on the afternoon.
RELAY EVENTS
• The Tigers took the top two spots to begin the day in the 400-yard medley relay.
• Pacific won the final event of the day, winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:35.79.
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS
• Jadyn Phillips started the individual events with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:50.86), winning by over 20 seconds. Phillips was third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.86) to set a season-best mark.
• Lauren Geiger led a one-two-three finish for the Tigers in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.44 ahead of Jordyn Gonzales and Mackenzie Ayala.
• The Tigers’ also got a sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke as Kelly Kermoian won the event in 2:07.95 ahead of Ellie Macphail and Jordyn Gonzales.
• Kelsey Lloyd was the first to the wall in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.62) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.04).
• Allie Emery set a season-best in the 50-yard freestyle (24.28) ahead of teammate Paige Sondgeroth (24.50). Emery was third overall and the first Tiger to finish in the 100-yard freestyle (54.20) for her second season best on the day.
• Caitlin Tan won the 100-yard butterfly in 57.52.
• Ellie Macphail won the 400-yard IM in 4:37.81 and was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.51).
• Noemi Melendez was third overall and the first Tiger to finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.87).
