Caeleb Dressel Returns to Clay HS to Speak About Rio Olympics (VIDEO)

Clay High School, where Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel went before making the jump to the University of Florida, posted a video to Facebook with Dressel’s homecoming speech.

Dressel talks about how happy he was when he finished 2nd in the 100 free in Omaha and made the U.S. team for Rio, and walks through his 4×100 free relay swim and his overall experience at the Rio Games. He recalls Michael Phelps telling him, on the podium after the relay, to “slow down, take a minute, and just take this all in.”

As the lead-off leg to the 4×100 free relay, Dressel posted a 48.10, the 2nd-fastest lead-off leg of the field. Along with Phelps, Ryan Held, and Nathan Adrian, Dressel would help the Americans win the gold medal in the final on the 2nd night of competition. Dressel won another gold as the prelims anchor for the USA 4×100 medley relay.

Individually, Dressel made the final of the 100 free, where he finished 6th overall (48.02).

With the Olympics over, Dressel will head back to the University of Florida, where he will begin his junior season with the Gators. The defending NCAA champion in the 50 and 100 free will try to repeat those national titles and lower his SCY American records in his third season in Gainesville.

Wonderful to see this. And yet this article receives only 1/10 of attention compared to any Ryan Lochte article 🙁

Folks, this is Clay High School Blue Devils, Green Cove Springs, FL, not other Clay High Schools (2 in Indiana, 2 in Ohio, 1 each in Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Alabama, Kentucky or West Virginia). Had to search a bit to find this out. Article could have mentioned this was the Florida school.

I thought it was common knowledge that Dressel was raised in Florida throughout his high school years. I mean he was on the Bolles club team

HA, he has a great story to tell. and he tells it well. made me laugh a couple of times. I remember seeing interviews with him before college thinking he was great with those. Reminds me of Josh Davis.

This was really funny. Caeleb is a great storyteller. Great job Caeleb. I can’t wait for the Gator swim season to start. He’s gonna be paid after 2020.

He’s got great speaking skills! He seemed so comfortable talking in front of all the people and just being himself which is pretty hard to do for some people

I also love how he casually mentions he was hanging out “with his friend Santo [Condorelli]” who is also an Olympian now
