Caeleb Dressel Analyzes Performances: “I gotta get better” (Video)

2019 MISSION VIEJO SWIM MEET OF CHAMPIONS

After throwing down a lot of races in Mission Viejo this weekend, Caeleb Dressel is ready to get back to work. Saying that he’s in a weird place right now (perhaps hinting that he’s just beginning taper), by his standards he had a mixed bag of racing: some good, some bad, and some ok.

With the World Championships just 4 weeks away now, this will most likely be Dressel’s last meet before Team USA heads to Singapore for training camp in early July.

I’m predicting 20.9, 46.8, and a ridiculous 49.3.

IF he does that, it’ll be one of the greatest sprint performances ever.

how many sports cliches did he use in that interview? Like 20. He just needs to just get to taper and remember that the work has been done and go out and have fun with his teammates. You guys are all having way too high of expectations for him.

Prediction: Dressel breaks 3 world records this summer. 50 free: 20.70, 100 free: 46.64, 100 fly: 49.41

20.7 seems just a little quick… 20.8 high or 20.9’s

I think Proud and Dressel will both break the WR. 20.7 is a bit of a stretch tho unless he finds that 17.6 magic

20.7 if he wears a Mizuno

Do you think Caeleb does any comparison tests in practice, i.e. do some time trials in training with the old Mizuno suit vs the new Speedo?

Do Mizuno reps try to push product through these comments as a way to advertise on the cheap?

I want Proud as far away from Dressel as possible in the 50 free. Ben’s false starts are scary.

Those times don’t even look real lol. The 100 fly could actually be pretty close. The 50 and 100 free might be a bit ambitious at the moment. I think he might be 21.0-20.8 in the 50 and 47.0-46.8 in the 100

Unpopular opinion: he will win it, but wont go under 50 in the fly, and he wont win gold in the 50 or 100 free.

I also think nobody can touch him in the fly. Chalmers will run everyone down in the 100 free on the backhalf…50 you just can’t say. from lane 1 to lane 8 everyone can win it.

He’s going sub-50 unless he misses his taper.

There are other guys with legitimate world record shots in the frees, so he could plausibly come out second even with 20/46 high.

agreed – and brings in an insane 100 free as well .

You go 50.3 unshaved and think “Christ, I need to sort that out”.

Don’t worry Caeleb, we’ve all been there, you’ll be fine.

Coleman, was this interview before or after the 50.3/100 fly?

After that 200 free warm up for a US National Record run and 2019 World #1 100 fly is a more accurate description. 🥇

He was interviewed after the 100 free

Hank

Isn’t it normal going into taper that his longer distances would be slower? The 50 is more anaerobic so it is affected less. A 21.5 indicates his speed is there and the 100 and 200 times that he has a normal amount of fatigue for this point of the training cycle and will drop big time in taper?

His 23.8 going out on the 100 fly indicates his speed is there more than anything. His training cycle is just different. It’s unshaved OT’s practice to mimic next year. He’s very rested, just not all the way and not shaved.

like the 100 free WR , a spot on the 800 free relay – maybe also the 100 fly WR , winning the 50 free in 20.86 and Bring Usa to gold on 3 more relays ……thats more than enough .

21.5 to 20.86. That’s going to be one helluva taper. I’m saving that prediction.

If he actually hits 20.86:
Ol Longhorn – *crickets*

If he is any slower (like if he “only” goes 21.0 or something):
Ol Longhorn – “TOLD YA, I GOT THE RECIEPTS YALL ARE DELUSIONAL”

The predictions usually tend to be on the optimistic side especially at the Olympics. Ol’ Longhorn is going to make world’s interesting though, either he’ll catch hell or he’ll be gloating to the point where some will find it unbearable.😂
