Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ellen Osthelder of Madison, Wisconsin, has announced her committment to swim and study at New Mexico State University this upcoming fall. Osthelder attends Madison West High School, and trains year-round with Badger Aquatic Club, also in the Madison area.
Osthelder shared her commitment on Instagram:
This past fall, Osthelder capped off her high school career with an impressive showing at the Wisconsin High School State Championship. She finished 3rd in the 100 fly, clocking a personal best time of 56.02. She also swam the 50 free, where she earned 12th in a best time of 24.16. She also led off her team’s 5th-place 200 freestyle relay in 24.29.
More recently, Osthelder raced at the Wisconsin LSC Senior Short Course Championships where she placed as high as 5th in the 50 fly (25.61). Leading off her team’s 400 medley relay Osthelder notched a personal best in the 100 back, dropping just over a tenth for a 58.12. Rounding out her top-8 finishes was the 100 fly, where she took 6th overall in 57.22.
Another event she’s seen significant improvement in this season is the 200 fly. She entered the fall with a personal best of 2:07.59, then in November swam a 2:04.93 to drop nearly three seconds.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 free – 24.16
- 100 free – 53.26
- 50 fly – 25.61
- 100 fly – 56.02
- 200 fly – 2:04.93
New Mexico State competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), where they finished 4th out of 8 teams at the 2023 WAC Championships. Freshman Naomi Slee led the way for the Aggies this season, as she was awarded WAC Freshman of the Year due to her top-3 finishes in the 200 free, 500 free, and 1650 at this year’s conference meet.
It took a 56.73 in the 100 fly and a 2:07.23 in the 200 fly to break into the top-16 this year, meaning Osthelder is in a good position to be an immediate contributor for New Mexico State. Senior Molly Hill was the team’s highest finisher in the 200 at 9th (2:02.68), while 5th-year Maude Boily-Dufour and senior Rachel Ponte took 13th (56.40) and 14th (56.46) in the 100.
Joining Osthelder in the incoming class of 2027 is Riley Crespo, Callie Ceshker, Emily Dobbins, Foteini Charitou, Annabella Marthaler, Kodi Wiman, and Taylor Craft. Ceschker is also a Wisconsin native, and swims sprint freestyle with best times of 23.75 and 52.05 in the 50 and 100 free.
