Buffalo Men, Women Sweep St. Bonaventure

The University of Buffalo men and women put on a dominant show in their dual meet against St. Bonaventure. The men beat the Bonnies 172-69, while the women earned a 169-69 victory. Full results can be found here.

OLEAN, NY – UB men’s and women’s swimming and diving swept St. Bonaventure in their dual meet on Friday. The men won 172-69, while the women were victorious by a score of 169-69. Overall, the Bulls won a combined 23 of 26 events on the day to earn wins in dominating fashion.

To start the meet, the Bulls earned first-place finishes in fifteen-straight events and swept the top-three places in five of those events. Their fast start laid a solid foundation for the Bulls as they continued their winning ways throughout the matches. In diving UB finished in the top-three in both women’s diving events, while the men took first and second in the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Sarah Baxter finished first in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle events with times of 23.85 and 51.58, respectively, and was also apart of the winning 200 yard medley relay team. Catherine Schultheis won the 200 yard freestyle and finished second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.15.

Itai De La Vega earned two individual wins and was also apart of the men’s 200 yard medley relay team that won. He swam the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.60 and 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 57.29. Charles Barry won both the 1000 yard and 500 yard freestyle events beating the other competitiors by at least four seconds in each race.

The Bulls compete in their final dual meet of the season when they return home to Alumni Arena for Senior Day on Saturday. Saturday’s meet against Cleveland State is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Alumni Arena Natatorium with the seniors being recognized before the dual meet. St. Bonaventure:

Women-

The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team completed the 2016 regular season with a 166-69 home loss to the UB Bulls Friday night at the Reilly Center Pool.

The Bonnies were only able to manage one first place finish, which came in the 200-yd freestyle relay. The team ofMaggie Woods, Sam Kuchinski, Bridget Jordan and Rachel Taylor finished with a final time of 1:42.14.

Despite not registering a win, Tanja Kirmse performed well Friday evening for the Bonnies. The junior posted two-second place finishes in both the 100-yd butterfly (59.29) and the 1,000-yd freestyle (10:43.85).

In the 100-yd backstroke, the Bonnies finished in the second and third positions. Taylor Hodges finished third with a final time of 1:05.86, and Lex Scanlan finished in second place swimming a time of 1:04.02.

Next Up:
The Bonnies will begin preparing for the 2016 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, which are set to begin Wed. February 17, at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Men-

The St. Bonaventure men’s swimming and diving team dropped the final dual meet of the 2016 season to the University at Buffalo Bulls 172-69 Friday evening at the Reilly Center Pool.

The Bonnies were only able to manage one individual event win on the night. Senior Michael Pilyugin took the 100-yd backstroke title swimming a final time of 51.06.

The second win for the Bonnies came in the 200-yd freestyle relay. The team of Michael White, Michael Pilyugin, Jordan Powers and Matt Taccard finished first with a time of 1:24.75.

In the 200-yd medley relay, the team of Pilyugin, Matthew Schutt, White and Taccard posted a second place finish with a time of 1:33.83.

Logan Hellwig swam well in the 50-yd freestyle placing second with a time of 21.76. Other top swims for St. Bonaventure were Michael White in the 200-yd IM (1:55.58) and Eddie Donovan in the 100-yd butterfly (52.46
