The University at Buffalo men’s swimming and diving team traveled to Oxford, OH to take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks in a Conference match-up. The Bulls defeated Miami (OH) with a 177-119 score. The Bulls placed first in all but two swimming events, and second through fourth on both diving boards.

The Bulls started off the day with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Hudson Carroll, Itai De La Vega, Mason Miller, and Garrett Clarke were able to clock in at 1:31.04; placing them tenth in Buffalo’s All-Time Top-10 Performances. The success continued from there, and the Bulls took first in the next six events. Reid Zyniecki clocked in at 9:49.67 in the 1000 Free, nearly four seconds faster than second place teammate Callum Liddiard. Eric Jensen took first in the 200 Free for the Bulls with a time of 1:40.83; his time was just 0.37 seconds from an All-Time Top-10 Performance. Next up for a first place finish was Hudson Carroll. Carroll clocked in at 50.20, 0.38 seconds faster than second place. Itai De La Vega kept on top with his performances in the 100 Breast. De La Vega took first in the event with a time of 56.09; 0.01 seconds faster than teammate Garrett Clarke. Tudor Puszet placed first in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:52.40, nearly one second faster than second place. Mason Miller continued his reign in the 50 Free; taking first with a time of 20.73. Freshman Joseph Puglessi saw a first place finish in the 200 Back. Puglessi clocked in at 1:51.43, almost 2 seconds faster than second place. The Bulls took first and second in the 200 Breast when Garrett Clarke (first) and Scott Huang (second) clocked in at 2:01.06 and 2:03.87, respectively. Two Bulls saw multiple first place finishes: Zyniecki saw another first place finish when he clocked in at 4:42.75 on the 500 Free, just four second ahead of teammate Puszet. Miller also saw another first place finish when he clocked in at 49.59 in the 100 Fly. Scott Huang took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.76.

The Bulls did not place first in two event throughout the entire meet: 100 Free and 400 Free Relay. Eric Jensen took second in the 100 Free with a time of 46.61, less than one second slower than first place. The 400 Free Relay team consisting of Jensen, De La Vega, Martin Leigh, and Miller took second in the race with a time of 3:06.47. Right behind them were teammates Andrew Cole-Goins, Joseph Puglessi, Luke Gordon, and Clarke with a time of 3:11.93.

The Bulls took second through fifth on the one-meter dive with Nick Rodriguez leading the way. Rodriguez posted a score of 291.75. In third place with a score of 288.60 was Dan Roche; fourth place was Troy Birdsall; and fifth place was Kristian Santos. The Bulls also took second through fourth and sixth place on the three-meter. Rodriguez led the way again in second place; this time with a score of 342.75. Birdsall fell into third with a score of 323.25, Roche in fourth with a score of 311.18, and Santos in sixth with a time of 302.55.

The Bulls are back in action again on Friday, January 27th when they welcome St. Bonaventure to Buffalo. The meet is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
