Budapest To Lock The Final At LEN Women’s Euro Cup

Courtesy: LEN

The all-Hungarian final is very much in the cards in the Euro Cup Women, perhaps the only question remaining open before the return matches of the semis is whether both legs will be played in Budapest.

Three Hungarian teams reached the semis and all three netted 12 goals in the first leg. This gave a three-goal advantage to Ferencvaros which managed to down Padova in Italy with a convincing performance, but left the decision to this Saturday in the other duel, where Eger and UVSE settled for a thrilling draw.

Ferencvaros are really flying high, recently beat Champions League F4 participant Dunaujvaros 8-4 in the domestic league, so it’s hard to see that Padova could stage a successful comeback in Budapest.

A couple of hours later and some five kilometres away the other semi may offer more excitements on the Margaret Island. Three weeks ago, Eger and UVSE already produced a fantastic encounter – and they went on thrilling the fans last weekend when UVSE beat Eger 12-11 in the championship in another game filled with twists and turns. Repeating this result in the legendary Alfred Hajos pool would lock a Budapest-based final – provided Ferencvaros won’t be upset by Padova.
