Bucknell Wraps Up Dual Meet Schedule With Sweep of Lehigh

Women’s Recap

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team toppled Lehigh, 199-101, on Saturday at Jacobs Pool.

With their rivalry triumph over the Mountain Hawks (4-2, 2-1 PL), the Bison wrapped up their 2021-22 dual meet schedule with an impressive 9-1 (7-1 PL) record. The class of 2022—Lindsey BloomAlexis FariaMaddie HartiganMeagan HathawayCaroline MaykIsabella Smith and Meghan Taner—will now graduate having gone a remarkable 30-3 (23-3 PL) in dual meets, their only losses coming to defending Patriot League champion Navy.

Against Lehigh, Abby Doss led the way with three individual victories while Hartigan and Esme Hunter added two apiece. In addition, each appeared on one of Bucknell’s first-place relay teams, with Hunter leading off the 200 medley squad and Hartigan anchoring the 400 freestyle relay team.

Doss swept the breaststroke races and added a win in the 200 IM. Hartigan outraced the field in the 200 and 500 freestyle while Hunter took first in both backstroke races.

Meghan Catherwood (3-meter dive), Faria (100 butterfly) and Sabrina Vumbacco (1,000 freestyle) rounded out the Bison’s individual victors. Faria (200 medley) and Vumbacco (400 freestyle) each competed on a first-place relay squad while Kayla Lichtner swam the third leg on each.

In addition to winning the 3-meter dive, Catherwood’s score of 258.15 in the 1-meter dive was the sixth best in school history. Last week against Loyola, she cracked the program’s top 10 in the 3-meter dive (10th, 256.72).

The Bison next tune up for the Patriot League Championships by attending the Navy Invite on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12 p.m.

Men’s Recap

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team downed Lehigh, 193-105, on Saturday at Jacobs Pool.

The Bison wrapped up their dual meet schedule with a strong 7-3 (6-2 PL) record with their rivalry triumph over the Mountain Hawks (2-4, 1-2 PL). This marks the first time since the 2014-15 campaign, when they finished 7-4 (5-2 PL), that they scored at least seven dual victories in a single campaign.

Against Lehigh, John Gehrig and Chris Kopac each won two events. Gehrig outraced the field in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM while Kopac swept the distance freestyle races.

Will Cadwallader (3-meter dive), Will Hedges (200 breaststroke), Leo Kuyl (50 freestyle), Liam Pitt (100 butterfly) and Christian Stef (200 freestyle) also secured a first-place showing.

Kuyl anchored both the first-place 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Pitt also appeared on both of those squads, leading off the 400 freestyle.

Women’s Recap

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Despite a 4-0 start to the season, the Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team dropped its second consecutive meet, falling 199-101 to Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool on Senior Day, where the program honored the careers of Sarah HorneAnnie NorrisLiz OlszewskiGrace Rogowski and fifth year Ann Foley prior to the start of the event.

The Mountain Hawks tallied four first place finishes against the Bison on Saturday, led by a pair of wins for Foley and a win each for Sarah Hardy and Sarah Gill on the diving board.

Foley started the day off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.42, but was able to claw back with a win in the 50-yard freestyle (24.29). She also claimed victory in the 100-yard freestyle with time of 52.46.

Hardy won the 200-yard butterfly with a winning time of 2:03.21 while racking up two second-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.26) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.80).

On the boards, first year Sarah Gill got back to her winning ways with a victory in the one-meter dive with a score of 262.88.

The Mountain Hawks picked up a pair of second-place finishes to conclude the meet with Danielle Prekop in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.37) and the team of Noel Fresa, Horne, Rogowski and Foley in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:35.43).

Saturday marked the final home meet at Jacobs Pool for the 2021-22 season as the Mountain Hawks face Army West Point on the road Saturday at 5 p.m.

Men’s Recap

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team couldn’t handle Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Pool, falling to the Bison, 193-105 on Senior Day.

Before the meet began, the program honored the careers of seniors Addison CochranGlenn LascoJoey RogersConnor SeptOwen Thomas and fifth year Joe Huber.

The Mountain Hawks picked up a total of five first place finishes on the afternoon, led by a pair for Owen Thomas and one each for seniors Connor SeptGlenn Lasco and Addison Cochran.

Thomas picked up an early victory in the 100-yard backstroke with his victorious time of 51.18, also getting a win in the 200-yard backstroke event, coming in at 1:54.98.

Sept won Lehigh its second event of the meet with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, timing in at 57.59.

Lasco just missed out on victory in the 50-yard freestyle with his second-place time of 21.14 with teammate Alex Patti rounding out the top 3 with a third-place finish (21.46). Lasco was able to overcome the defeat with a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 46.53.

On the boards, Cochran took home a win in the one-meter dive, scoring a 264.30 and finished in second position during the three-meter diving event with his score of 257.03.

Lehigh closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay as the team of Patti, Tim NorrisAiden McCurley and Lasco timed in at 3:07.15.

Bucknell marked the final meet at Jacobs Pool for the 2021-22 season, as Lehigh will take on Army West Point on the road on Friday at 5 p.m.
