Brazilian sprinter Bruno Fratus is no longer training with Brett Hawke, but will train for his wife, Michelle Lenhardt, in the leadup to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic year.
The 30-year-old Fratus has been a staple of Brazil’s elite swimming scene for much of the past decade. He was a Pan Ams gold medalist in 2011, 2015 and 2019, and won World Championships medals in the 50 free in 2015 (bronze), 2017 (silver) and 2019 (silver). Fratus confirmed to SwimSwam that he’d no longer be training under Hawke for the coming year.
“I’m trying to set the best possible scenario for my 3rd Olympic run,” Fratus said, adding that he’s grateful for the years he’s trained with Hawke. “I’m thankful and appreciative of all the hard work we’ve put together and, of course, proud of all the great success we had.”
Brazil’s SporTV reports that Fratus will be training in Coral Springs, Florida. Fratus only plans to return to Brazil for the Brazil Trophy in April. That’s Brazil’s Olympic selection meet. He will train with his wife Lenhardt, who had already been coaching him daily, though Hawke was in charge of planning the training regimen. SporTV reports that the decision was made by all three, “by mutual agreement, and without any friction,” in a translation of the Portuguese.
Is it just me or his left hand seems much bigger than his right hand in picture
its just you
It happens when you drink tap water in Brazil
I wish I had a wife that yelled at me and made me do things that I dont want to. Oh, wait I DO!
Kidding aside, that guy is the fast twitchiest sprinter out there. Not saying the best, sprinter but if there were a race from a dead stop for 15 meters, he’d win.
isn’t him like over 70 times swimming 21 seconds??
Him is. Are we speaking Borat?
Least he’s not training with Tusup.
Heard he can be pretty intense too, it would be fireworks for sure
Least he’s not going to ASU.
Hawke is having a bad year.
is he coaching anyone?
Actually he’s having a great year. I’ve never seen him happier. He’s really enjoying helping the youth with clinics and fitter faster.
Haven’t I read that before??
