PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn women’s swimming and diving team came up short against Ivy League foe, Brown, 190.5-109.5 on Saturday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center.

“Today was a challenging day of racing for our program, said head coach Chris Maiello. “Competing on the road against a tough opponent our team rose to the challenge but it was not enough to overtake a really good Brown team. I am happy with the way our team did not back down and had races that showed some grit and heart. Even in the loss our staff is encouraged and excited about the future- both in the short term and the long term. As we continue to develop from a program standpoint we need to compete against teams at a higher level. Our team proved that we can consistently race with higher level competition. We are excited for our next phase which is a run for our championship season.”

Sophomore Katelyn Walsh led the way for the Huskies by capturing wins in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Her time of 1:05.13 just missed out on a season-best.

Katelyn had a good day being our only double winner,” said Maiello “It’s been fun to watch and help her development , she is talented and hard working and she is setting herself up for a strong second half of the season.”

Ryan Dulaney nabbed a win in the 1000 Free (10:17.19) and placed third in the 500 Free (5:01.67). Both times were season-bests for the long distance performer.

Freshman Mia Galat was solid for the Huskies placing second in the 200 Free and also produced solid times in the 100 (58.04) and 200 Fly (2:06.92).

Sophomore Georgia Apostolu notched a win in the 200 Backstroke and also secured a runner-up finish in the 100 Back.

On the board, Kamrin Dawkins landed on the podium with a third place finish in the 3M while Elizabeth Drab logged a third place mark in the 1M event.

“Overall, the divers did well today,” said head diving coach Josh Arndt.”They have been doing a fantastic job over the past few months training hard to reach our goals. We had sone fatigue going into today’s meet, but they left it all in the pool. I’m excited for them to have a bit of break going into Thanksgiving and coming back refreshed for the Rutgers Invite.”

UConn returns to the pool on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Rutgers Invite.
