After her swim in the women’s 400 IM on Sunday at the USA College Challenge, high school senior Brooke Forde was agast at her own time. The USA Swimming National Junior Teamer outraced a hoard of collegiate swimmers to a 4:02.67. That was not only the fastest time in the USA Swimming database this season by almost 7 seconds, it was her own personal best time by almost 5. Next year, when she moves to Stanford to begin her collegiate career, she’ll have the chance to train with current Cardinal sophomore Ella Eastin, who won this event in her inaugural NCAA Championship meet next year. At those NCAA Championships, Eastin was the only swimmer faster than Forde’s time from the weekend.
Big Ten swimmers finished 2nd-5th in this race, but it was Forde of the Lakeside Swim Team who came out on top. The 400 IM isn’t on offer at high school championship meets, but Forde is headed toward February’s Kentucky High School State Championship meet where she’s due to defend titles in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles. As a sophomore in 2015, she won the 200 IM, but changed events for her junior season at the powerhouse Sacred Heart Academy.

Yeah Brooke Forde – you are our swimming hero!!!
Really a great young lady with special talent. Congrats, Brooke.
Brooke Forde’s dad is a sports journalist for Yahoo — Pat Forde. I think we can expect some more swimming coverage from him!
Yes, we know. It’s mentioned on every article about her.
Yes. That kind of performances was expected from Brooke Forde. She swam 4.29.66 in the 400 IM at the last SCM world cup just behind Katinka Hosszu. It converts to 4.02.93 in SCY.
She has no real weak stroke and has a very good freestyle finish.
Definitely the biggest US hopeful in that event for the coming years.
I see her and Ella Eastin having some good battles in the coming years.
Great 400IM for a high schooler (would have placed 2nd at NCAAs last year!). but the time shouldn’t be too surprising because she just swam 4:29 in scm in the world cup circuit. With Maya retiring and Beisel at a latter stage in her career, there may be plenty of room for younger people like Cox, Galat, Eastin, and Forde to step up in this event at the international level. Eager to see how these athletes continue to develop over the next few years.
