Arkansas mid-distance freestyler Brittan Butler has given the first verbal commitment to the inaugural men’s swimming and diving class at Oklahoma Christian University. (We reported here in June that Oklahoma Christian planned to add intercollegiate men’s and women’s swimming programs for the 2017-18 academic year, and had hired five-time Olympic medalist Josh Davis to serve as the coach.)
“I am excited to swim for Oklahoma Christian. The opportunity to be trained by Olympian Josh Davis, while being part of a new swim program, was a deciding factor for me. I know that Coach Davis cares about me and will invest greatly in my swim career as well help me grow as a christian.” [sic]
Brittan is a mid-distance freestyler and 200/400IMer who swims for the Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs and Siloam Springs High School. At the 2016 AAA High School State Championships, Brittan placed fifth in the 500 free by dropping 20 seconds to swim a 5:00.29; he jumped 11 spots from his seeding with that swim. Brittan also finished 7th in the 200 IM (2:04.86), led off the medley relay, and anchored the 400 free relay, helping elevate Siloam Springs to finish 11th in the team standings.
His top SCY times include:
- 500 free – 5:00.29
- 200 IM – 2:04.67
- 400 IM – 4:27.94
- 200 back – 2:08.77
