Last weekend at the Prairie Winter International Meet in Winnipeg, Canada’s Breanne Siwicki set a new 15-17 Canadian National Age Group Record in the short course meters 400 IM with a 4:38.33. That just snuck under the 4:38.52 set by Marni Oldershaw, currently a freshman at Michigan, in 2011. (Oldershaw’s record was actually swum at the Paul Bergin Junior International in Oregon, USA).
Siwicki set this record in her home pool for the Manta Swim Club just a few weeks after the Canada Cup, where one would have been more expectant of these sorts of records. Her splits came up with errors so no good comparisons can be made to the previous record.
Siwicki earlier this year declared her intention to swim for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the NCAA, joining fellow Canadian NAG Record holder Kierra Smith just across the border. She is a former club teammate of, among others, Georgia standout freshman (and Canadian Worlds Team member) Chantal van Landegham.

She lowered it to 4:35.85 at the Paul Bergen meet in Portland tonight.
