I know this is day 3, but surprised you guys don’t really get into the men’s 200free individual.
Remember if the US women fail, its because of the milkshakes they enjoyed in Hawaii
Interesting that Mel is so grumpy that USA hasn’t stepped up to the plate strongly in 200 free depth for Tokyo (both men and women). He points out that in meters you just can’t fake it. As far as I can tell it is the only individual Olympic event where no male or female has won God twice… so 1) proving how tough a race it is and 2) Kinda makes Pellegrini’s multiple win’s at world’s special.
Check out the top 50 times of all time for both men & women in both 200 & 400 & see how many 25 years & above swimmers in the top 50 to understand why no one has won back to back golds in the 200. It’s a young 18-24 race.
I notice a fair bit of snide remarks every time they predict an Aussie gold medal .. doesn’t really happen for any other country .. hmmm
I thought that was because they have been predicting a lot of them and that Mel is going to hear about it from his buddies.
I didn’t notice snide remarks. I think they’re just making fun of Mel because he’s picked so many Aussies and they think Americans will be mad at him.
However I did notice that a certain panellist came up with any excuse he could not to pick Australia to win gold in any events lol.
I’m loving the fear. The US is by far the most powerful swimming country. Australia is with a bunch of countries Russia & China battling for 2nd best, some years Germany, Holland or France sticks their necks out & gets a few golds for 2nd spot.
But as Commonwobat, I think said, outside of the 50/60s & then early 00s, we were normally very much in the pack a long way behind the US. Now after both our respective trials, we are seeing many are hoping for chokes from the Aussie team & some not tapered, OTS, pandemic only affecting a certain country excuses.
I’m loving it. Some see us as a threat, we are number 1 in… Read more »
Oh not just this episode but in the previous one as wel where they jokingly said the Adelaide pool must be 49meters that’s why the Aussie girls all swam 52 seconds or something like that .. so not sure whether that was a sledge or just banter .. not sure how that “joke” would fly with Americans if done in the reverse
I interpreted all of this, including the short pool comment, as different ways of saying how strong the Aussies look this year. I’ll not from Australia, so I’m less likely to think deeply about what they really mean when watching it, but over and over they had me reflecting on how good the Aussie team is.
Verram you’re a very sensitive boy, aren’t you? Let’s collectively give him a hug.
Is there usually a delay in them being posted? This ep isn’t available on Spotify or Apple podcast for me
Really enjoying these guys, great rapport. Coleman you disagreed w/the 100 free predictions, who do you see on the podium?
Braden, you were surprised that the Aussies broke the women’s 4×200 free relay world record in 2019? Did you not read my series? I practically guaranteed it! 😉
