Brazilian Breaststroker Felipe Ribeiro Goncalves Joins TCU

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Felipe Ribeiro Goncalves, a breaststroker and IMer from Brazil, has joined Texas Christian University for his freshman year.

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at TCU! I want to take the opportunity to thank my family, my coaches, Corinthians Natação, my friends, Marina and the ASM Team for all the help and support. Also, a big thank you for TCU for giving me this chance to be part of their team.”

Goncalves joins TCU from the Sport Clube Corinthians Paulista in São Paulo. He is a six-time Brazilian National Champion, a four-time National silver medalist, and a 2019 South American silver medalist. Goncalves is primarily a breaststroker and IMer, which will come in handy after the graduation of top TCU breaststroker Janis Silins and impending graduation of Raphael Paiva da Lima.

Best short-course meters times (yards conversion):

  • 100 breast: 1:03.14 (56.88)
  • 200 breast: 2:15.60 (2:02.16)
  • 200 IM: 2:07.43 (1:54.80)
  • 400 IM: 4:35.41 (4:08.11)

TCU is a member of the Big 12 Conference. At last season’s Big 12 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, TCU finished 2nd behind the University of Texas (who will be moving to the SEC in 2024). The conference has also transformed this season, with the addition of BYU and Cincinnati.

TCU won its first dual meet of the season against BYU last Friday, edging out the Cougars 200-172. Goncalves competed as an exhibit swimmer in the 100 breast, finishing in 55.77. He also competed in the 400 IM, finishing fourth with a time of 4:05.17. Both of these times are better than his SCM conversion estimates, suggesting that Goncalves has been improving steadily since his arrival earlier this year.

Goncalves joins Elliot Dillon and Nikola Kottin; Dillon is a diver and Kottin, from Serbia, specializes in IM and free events.
