Through just 1 day of competition here in Lima, Peru, the United States leads the Pan American Games swimming medal table with a total of 8 pieces of hardware. The stars n’ stripes reaped 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 2 bronze medals, while the nation of Brazil is close behind, carrying a total of 6 medals, including 3 golds, into day 2.
Argentina, Canada, Colombia and Mexico also staked a claim on this competition with medals on day 1 to bring the number of countries represented on the podium in pool swimming to 6.
For the Americans, Andrew Abruzzo captured the top prize in the men’s 400m free, clocking a gold medal-worthy effort of 3:48.41. Annie Lazor also won gold, beating the women’s 100m breast field in a time of 1:06.94.
In relay action, it was the Brazilians who landed at the wall first in the men’s edition of the 4x100m free event, with Breno Correia, Marcelo Chierghini, Bruno Fratus and Pedro Spajari collectively clocking a winning effort of 3:12.61 to register a new Games Record.
But, the women of the United States surged to hit a time of 3:39.59 to take gold in their race, with the combination of Lia Neal, Claire Rasmus, Kendyl Stewart, and Margo Geer getting the edge over the Brazilians.

Men 200 free: I would be really surprised if Scheffer loses this
Women 100 fly: Kendyl is favorite, but I don´t know her 100 free PB to say if she was good at the relay yesterday
Men 100 fly: Lanza, with Martinez as surprise factor
Women 200 back: US to lose
