It’s not time to exhale in Florida just yet: the club arm of the Bolles School juggernaut has broken a National Age Group Record in the 13-14 boys’ 200 yard medley relay.
At the 2012 Bolles Time Trial meet, Dakota Mahaffey, James Daugherty, Gian Garcia, and Tyler Rice combined to swim a 1:35.94, which crushed the 1:38.24 swum earlier this year by the Premier Aquatic Club of Klein in suburban Houston. The splits for the Bolles boys are below:
Mahaffey 24.57
Daugherty 26.70
Garcia 23.15
Rice 21.52
The story doesn’t stop there, though, as head coach Sergio Lopez outlined in his latest blog post. At this meet, designed to capitalize on the taper for the high school state meet, there were a ton of impressive times. That’s despite this meet being swum outdoors in the rain.
Bolles’ boys’ 15-16 200 free relay also just barely missed a National Age Group Record, and none of them are the four who were a part of their record-destroying high school relays from last week. Caeleb Dressel led off in a 20.12, followed by Michael Fonteno, Hagen Dietrich, and Luke Georgiadis.
Dressel swims for Clay High School in scholastic competition, but for Bolles in USA Swimming. He didn’t swim the 50 free individually at his State Championship meet, but his 20.12 here is the third-best in age group history.
Daugherty, already with a record in the medley above, swam a 2:05 in his 200 yard breaststroke to make a Winter Juniors cut at only 13. Ryan Murphy, the biggest superstar of the Bolles team, swam a 47.48 in the 100 fly.
The future is bright with Bolles. They are graduating a big part of their high school State Championship meet, but seem poised to reload for another run. If you think their records are untouchable, you might reconsider on the basis of that which they have moving up alone.

Is Schooling really only 5’7″ and 140 lbs? Just incredible!
If he continues to improve so quickly Caeleb Dressel is perhaps the next high school record holder in the 50 free and in the 100 free.
How tall is Ryan Murphy? It seems he has grown a lot in the last months. And he already looks very powerful for his young age. I hope he will be at least at the same level at the short course world championships. I’m sure he could play the medals on backstroke.
