Jan Switkowski

Jan Switkowski is a Polish Olympian and a world championships bronze medalist. He competed for the University of Florida during his college years.

College Career

2013-2014

Switkowski attended Virginia Tech for the 2013-2014 season before making the decision to transfer to University of Florida. During his freshman year, Switkowski won the 500 freestyle at ACC Championships with a time of 4:18.15 and competed in three relays.

2015-2016

In 2015, Switkowski made his debut as a Florida Gator. He placed second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 and 200 butterfly at SEC Championships. To finish off his season, Switkowski managed to score in all seven events at the NCAA Championships. His touched the wall fourth in both, the 200 IM and 200 freestyle, and got ninth in the 200 butterfly. He also helped Florida get third in the 800 and 400 freestyle relays.

2016-2017

During his junior year, Switkowski placed second in the 100 and 200 butterfly at the SEC Championships. In the 200 butterfly, he got out touched by Gerogia’s Pace Clark by 0.07 seconds. A few weeks later, Switkowski had a successful showing at the NCAA Championships. He won the 200 IM and 200 freestyle B-finals and placed 10th in the 200 butterfly. He also competed in four relays placing second in the sprint freestyle relays, third in the 800 freestyle relay and eighth in the 400 medley relay.

2017-2018

Switkowski saved the best for last and had his most successful year during the 2017-2018 season. At the NCAA Championships, he finished second in the 100 and 200 butterfly. The Gators took 1-2 in the 100 butterfly as Switkowski’s teammate Caeleb Dressel too first place in 42.80. Switkowski touched the wall second with the time of 44.49. To highlight his senior year, Switkowski won his first individual NCAA Championships title in the 200 IM. His time 1:39.54 won the event by 0.43 seconds. Earlier in the session, he was also a part of Florida’s winning 200 freestyle relay that out touched NC State’s relay by 0.11 seconds.

International Career

2015 FINA World Championships

He got third in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.10. He was also a big asset in relays as he helped team Poland finish eighth in the 4×200 freestyle relay.

2016 Olympic Games

At the Olympics in Rio, Jan swam the 200 fly, where he finished prelims in 17th (1:56.73), missing out on a second swim.

2017 FINA World Championships

Switkowski competed in Budapest, Hungary placing 10th in the 200 butterfly, 16th in the 100 butterfly and 18th in the 200 freestyle.

2018 European Championships

Jan won his first international relay medal in Glasgow as part of Poland’s 3rd place 4×100 free relay. He also swam the 100 fly, where he finished in 15th, and the 200 fly, where he finished 6th.

ISL – Cali Condors

On June 11, 2019, Jan Switkowski was announced as a member of the Cali Condors ISL team, headed by GM Jason Lezak
