Ilya Shymanovich is a competitive swimmer who represents Belarus internationally.
2017 World Championships
In Budapest, Shymanovich swam the 50 breast, where he set the national record in the both prelims and semi’s (26.90), qualifying for the final heat. In finals, he placed 8th overall.
2018 Short Course World Championships
In Hangzhou, Shymanovich set national records in both the 50 (25.77) and 100 (56.10) breaststroke, scoring silver medals behind South African Cameron van der Burgh in both.
58-Club
Entering the Marseille stop of the 2019 FFN Golden Tour Camille Muffat, Shymanovich’s personal best and Belarusian National Record in the 100m breast event stood at the 59.40 registered at the 2018 Belarus National Championships. In prelims in Marseille, Shymanovich produced the swim of his life, crushing a new meet record mark of 58.79. Splitting 27.34/31.45, Shymanovich laid waste to the morning field to take the top spot. In finals, Shymanovich dropped a massive 58.29 to take gold and further establish himself among the event’s greats, becoming the #2 performer all-time behind Adam Peaty.
2020 ISL Budapest Bubble
Swimming for league runners-up Energy Standard, Shymanovich finished 12th in the entire league in MVP scoring, and second to Sakci among European men. He finished the ISL season as the league’s #2 swimmer in the 100 breast (just .08 behind Peaty’s world record swim) and the #3 swimmer in the 50 breast.
Shymanovich reset his Belarusian Record in the 100 breast on five separate occasions during the ISL season, which included going under Cameron van der Burgh’s 2009 world record in 55.49 alongside Peaty in the finale, though Peaty went a tick faster in 55.41. Though he didn’t surpass the more flashy Peaty in best times for that season, Shymanovich did manage to outscore Peaty by a solid 25 points in MVP scoring across the season.
2020 Belarusian Championships – 1st World Record
Ilya Shymanovich blasted to a new 100 breast world record on the final day of the Belarusian Short Course Championships, clocking 55.34 to erase the previous record of 55.41 set by Adam Peaty during the 2020 International Swimming League Final.
2020 Swammy Awards
Between November and December of 2020, Shymanovich swam between 55.3 and 55.8 six separate times in the 100 (short course meter) breaststroke. For his accomplishments throughout the year, Shymanovich earned the 2020 Swammy Award for European Male Swimmer of the Year.
2021 European Championships (Budapest, Hungary)
Shymanivoch won his first LC European Champ medal in Budapest, touching for 2nd in the 50 breast at 26.55. He also placed 4th in the 100 breast at 58.75.
