Heidi Poppe

Heidi Poppe
Heidi Poppe is a breaststroker at Stanford University, where she’s undeclared on her major. Poppe had a stellar freshman year, breaking into the top eight at the Pac-12 Championships in both breaststroke events. From Danville, Calif. Poppe trained with the Crow Canyon Sharks and was a monster breaststroke recruit out of high school. She was the no. two breaststroker in the 2014 class, collegeswimming.com’s sixth-ranked recruit in California, and was a member of the U.S. team that competed at the 2013 FINA World Junior Championships. She came into Stanford with the times and ability to score at the NCAA level, and she’ll quickly improve after joining a team full of elite breaststroke swimmers. Poppe graduated from San Ramon Valley High School as a 12-time high school All-American and was honored as the 2014 San Ramon Valley Athlete of the Year. Poppe has been described as having a happy and playful personality, but a fierce competitor when she gets into the pool. She is team-oriented, and often rounded up her San Ramon Valley teammates for a movie night and team bonding time. Poppe has a younger brother, Hank, who is also a breaststroker – the siblings swept the 100 breaststroke at the 2014 East Bay League Championships.

Stanford University
2014-2015
As a freshman Poppe had a breakout Pac-12 meet. She placed third in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 breaststroke and qualified for the NCAA Championships. She was the first alternate in the 100, and she finished 36th in the 200.

National Competition
Poppe was named to the 2013 Junior World Championship Team for the 100m breaststroke. During her high school career Poppe was a three-time 100 breaststroke champion at the CIF North Coast Section meet, and she helped her high school win their fourth team title in the last six years.

She’s the 2011 and 2012 back-to-back winter Junior National champion in the 100 breaststroke, and in 2012 she was the 200 breaststroke champion as well.
