Emily Duff

Emily is the eldest child of Mark and Marjorie Duff. She grew up in Clayton, NC with her brother Alex. Athletically she takes after her father who was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American in diving at Oakland University. Emily was named a Team Captain for the Lady Flames for her senior year. Emily leads the middle distance group of the team with dedication and an inspiring work ethic while balancing a difficult course load and excelling in all areas.

Club

Emily swam for the Marlins of Raleigh with coach John Fischetti. Duff specialized in the a wide range of events including backstroke, IM, and distance freestyle. She competed at the 2010 Southern Zone Championships, as well as multiple state and sectional championships. She ranked 103rd nationally for 17-year old females in USA Swimming’s IM Xtreme Challenge. She also competed for Clayton High School for four seasons, earning team MVP honors every year. She competed at the NCHSAA State Championship for four straight years. Also an accomplished student, Emily earned 2009-2010 Scholastic All-America honors by USA Swimming for earning a 3.7 GPA and swimming 4:32.54 for the 400 IM, as well as being named to the Principal’s List and Honor Roll.

College

2011-2012

Emily made an immediate contribution to the Lady Flames as she earned nine individual event victories in the regular season. By the end of her first year she held the team records in the 200 back, 500 free , 1000 free, and 400 IM. At the CCSA Championship, she placed third in 100 back, swimming a 56.65. Emily also placed third in the 200 back with a 2:02.40. She swam a 4:58.63 in 500 free for ninth place. She anchored the Flame’s second-place 800 free relay, which set a program record of 7:30.74. During the regular season she set program record in 1000 free at Davidson Duals (Jan. 28), swimming 10:36.29. Emily was named to the CCSA All-Academic team.

2012-2013

Emily continued to be a key swimmer for the Lady Flames posting eight individual event victories in dual meets. She had outstanding performances versus Duquesne, winning the 200 free, 200 back, 400 IM, and Boston College, winning the 200 free and 500 free. At the CCSA Championship, Emily placed second in 200 back in a program-record and NCAA B cut time of 1:58.30. She raced a lifetime-best 55.72 in the 100 back at the conference meet to place third. She swam the 500 free in 4:59.16, good for fourth place. Emily led off Liberty’s program-record-setting 400 medley relay and 800 free relays at CCSA Championships. Emily continued to hold the team records in 500 free and 200 back by end of season. She repeated her efforts as an academic standout being named a CCSA All-Academic honoree and CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention.

2013-2014

Emily won four individual events during the regular season, including 100 back and 200 back at Davidson Duals. At the conference championship, she set a program record of 4:20.89 in the 400 IM, ultimately placing third. Emily also earned her second career NCAA B cut with a time of 1:57.52 in the 200 back, good for second place. She competed in the 500 free swimming a personal best of 4:53.78, earning 5th overall. In the relay events, Emily helped the Lady Flame’s to a second place finish in the 800 free relay with a 1:47.70 split and a program record time of 7:17.75. During her 3rd season, Emily set the program records in the 200 back (1:57.52) and 400 IM (4:20.89). She was honored as a CCSA All-Academic Team member and a CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention.

2014-2015

Personal

Emily Duff is currently studying towards her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She plans to graduate in December 2015 with her B.S.,R.N. She desires to work in pediatrics.
