Dominik Kozma is a Hungarian freestyler, three-time Olympian and World Championship medalist. He was born in Scotland where his father Istvan was playing professional soccer at the time. The elder Kozma was a midfielder and played for Liverpool as well as other professional teams around Europe.

It is not surprising then that his son would also represent Hungary and compete at the highest level in sport. Though Kozma didn’t follow in his father’s footsteps. Instead he chose swimming after learning to swim at four years old.

International Career

Kozma made his Olympic debut at just 17 years old. He was a member of the 800 meter freestyle relay that finished 13th in Beijing. Four years later he was back in action at the Olympics. This time round he had an individual swim as well as relays. In the 200 meter freestyle Kozma finished 10th in 1:46.93. He also swam in the 400 and 800 meter freestyle relays finishing 5th and 8th respectively.

2016 Rio Olympic Games

At his third Olympic Games, Kozma was again in the line up of the 200 meter freestyle. In Rio he finished 15th in 1:47.53.

2017 World Championships

At the World Championships in front of a home crowd, Kozma won a bronze medal as a member of the 400 meter freestyle relay. He lead of his team in 48.26 and the Hungarian team touched in 3:11.99 to take the bronze. In the 200 meter freestyle final Kozma finished 6th in 1:45.54.
